This is not something I ever thought I’d do but I have decided to offer my beloved S1 for sale. It’s a quick S1 with a 180bhp K series and a B4BP short ratio gearbox. The car has had a large refresh in my ownership since May 2020 and I’ve enjoyed building it into my dream Elise. Its an early 1998 car with a busy past and large amount of history. The condition of the car inside and out is excellent, a far higher standard than most S1’s showing half the mileage of this car.
I will list below the extensive work and upgrades the car has undergone since 2020:
Full body strip down and respray in ‘B05’ Norfolk Mustard yellow. I always wanted a yellow S1 and the car was originally Titanium Silver and had a few colour mismatched panels so I decided to paint it in the best colour for an S1. The bodywork is excellent 4 years on. Whilst the body was stripped, the headlights have been upgraded, rear grills replaced, front grill repainted, tow post blasted and powder coated, stainless fasteners fitted, driving light fittings replaced.
full suspension refresh- wishbones stripped, treated and painted in full por15 process.
Subframe stripped and painted with por15.
Aluminium uprights cleaned, Alochrom treated and painted.
New EP upgraded Toe-links, new ball joints and Eliseshop bush kit, full suspension bolt kit, Track rod ends, CV joints cleaned and re-greased with new rubber boots, new wheel bearings on all corners, latest spec Gaz monotube shocks fitted (similar ride quality to S2 bilstein but slightly stiffer sprung for occasional track use)
brake calipers stripped, cleaned and rebuilt with new pistons, seals and bleed nipples.
CL5+ brake pads fitted and new discs to replace MMC discs and pads.
Full braided hose kit fitted by previous owner.
Anti roll bar stripped and repainted then fitted with new bushes and end links.
Handbrake cables replaced.
All suspension and subframe assembled with duralac between dissimilar metals to stop future corrosion.
Floors cleaned, treated with Alochrom then repair panels bonded in.
Fuel tank removed, stripped, rust treated then repainted and lined with por15 fuel tank kit.
Spitfire fuel pump fitted Nov 2024 with new fuel lines to fuel rail.
Solid brake lines behind fuel tank replaced.
Gear selector cables replaced with EP uprated items.
Heater unit rebuilt with new heater matrix.
Stripped and repainted aluminium coolant pipes.
All new engine bay/exhaust heat shields, fittings, brackets and fasteners.
New Hangar 111 sports exhaust fitted 2023.
EP 5″ silenced decat fitted.
Aluminium radiator fitted by previous owner.
EP pressure relief remote thermostat fitted.
Pedal box rebuild in Nov 2024
Clutch slave cylinder strengthener bracket fitted.
Braided clutch line fitted by previous owner.
S2 wiper upgrade.
Steering rack rebuild in 2023 with phosphor bronze bushes used.
Magnecore uprated plug leads
New rotor arm and cap 2021
Poly bush lower engine mount and uprated gearbox mount.
New header tank.
All four tyres have plenty of tread, AD08RS at the rear and NS2R fronts, I did plan on swapping the rears also to NS2R as they seem really good.
Engine spec:
Full rebuild in 2021- engine stripped and the previously fitted (2005) new VHPD MS2 head and PTP cams checked and cleaned.
Replaced cam followers
Trophy 160 pistons and rods fitted
New Westwood liners and heights set.
All new bearings and seals, oil pump etc then assembled with latest MLS head gasket.
QED lightweight flywheel.
AP racing uprated clutch.
EP big bore 4-2-1 exhaust manifold.
EP 45mm DTH throttle bodies with enclosed airbox
Emerald ECU
Mocal air to oil cooler with thermostatic valve.
Vernier pulleys timed to DVA specs
– it’s a lovely Torquey motor which pulls hard to the sensible rev limiter set at 7500rpm. The driveability is excellent, it will crawl along in traffic at walking pace and pull cleanly from 1500rpm which cannot be said for many high powered k series cars!
Interior retrimmed in black Alcantara and fitted with much comfier 111s seats in green to match the hood. I also have a set of new custom Corbeau Le Pro seats which will be available separately.
Brand new Rota slipstream wheels fitted in 2022.

There’s so much more to add but you get the idea, it’s a very good Elise that’s had every weak point addressed. I’ve spent 10’s of thousands of pounds making it the best it can be. Although it’s done quite a few miles at 127,500 and not in it’s original colour, it’s perhaps not one for the collector but if you are looking for a very nice S1 to use and enjoy, do occasional trackdays or even the odd sprint/hillclimb this must be one of the best out there.
This is a very reluctant sale, I love the car but I simply don’t use the it as often as I’d hoped so I’ve decided to change to an Alpine A110 which I can use as my daily drive. If there’s any interest in the car I will take more photos when the weather is a bit better. I will have the car MOT’d before sale as this is due fairly soon. Last service was April 2024.
HPI clear and no evidence of any previous accident damage.
