This isn't a standard S1, nor is it trying to be. It's been carefully developed into a seriously capable machine, retaining all the delicacy, feedback and lightweight character of the original Elise, but with the performance, reliability and drivability of a well-executed Ford Duratec conversion.
One of the things that particularly appealed to me about this car is that it wasn't simply built around a bigger engine. The original owner was obsessive about keeping the car light. Unlike many engine conversions, this one was engineered with weight reduction as a key priority, resulting in a car that's actually lighter than many other Duratec conversions, while benefiting from the reliability and power of the Ford engine.
The weight-saving measures include removal of the complete front bonnet latch mechanism in favour of lightweight Zeus fasten…
I am sure some on this group will know me, Andrew Goater, regarding PG1 gearbox building. Over the last 10 or more years, I have supplied numerous B4BP close ratio gearboxes for Lotus cars on this group.
For racing the B4BP is too long gears. In a similar way that Lotus have their own UCR gear in the 340R cars, I have had custom made a 3 gear (6 sprocket) kit which uses the original C ratio gears 1 and 2 but a very close ratio 3, 4 and 5. The intention is you only use 1st gear off the line and 2 to 5 are very close. It fits a C6BP 3.9 final drive box and on 16" wheels gives a top speed of 125mph. If you use bigger wheels or your engine revs more than 7500rpm a 4.2 final drive can be used.
The gears are helical and are the same tooth design as the original gears. So, unlike using straight cut, these are quiet.
3rd, 1.47. 4th, 1.222, 5th, 1.034.
At 70mph (113kph) the rpm's are at 4500 in top gear. This does mean it's very fast to accelerate at this …
Complete VVC Engine, bought for the head alone, following head gasket failure of my tuned engine, when it was on the dyno.
It turned out that I didn't need to replace the head after all, hence the reason for selling. I bought it from a family run breaker, that I found on eBay with really good feedback on 690+ sales.
They were offering it partly dismantled, along with everything required to rebuild it. I contacted them and asked if I could buy it without the gaskets, seals and valve springs etc. They agreed and I bought it.
The head has been vapour blasted, and is in very good condition, the valves have absolutely minimal play in the guides, suggesting relatively low mileage. The cylinder bores all look good, but I have no idea of the condition of the gearbox.
I've just bought a new tablet, and so far I haven't figured out how to post pics on here. U2U me your mobile no and I'll What's App the pics that way.
I’m reluctantly putting my beloved Lotus up for sale, because of lack of use due to having a young family, ideally I’d love for it to go to another Lotus enthusiast, who would massively benefit from an already converted S2!
