After over a decade of fun ownership my Renault Clio Trophy number 271 is reluctantly up for sale.
Putting up on forums before going out more generally.
For those not aware the Trophy was a run out version of the Clio 182 and has been listed by several as amongst the greatest hot hatches of all time.
I have owned for the last ten years and spent a lot of time and money partially restoring it to keep as fresh as possible so it should be one of the better ones out there mechanically. Reason for selling are common to the forum namely accumulated too many cars, not enough storage space I and spending all my time on planning restoration projects rather than driving them. Also for this one I have finished our restoration work.
That has include included a full nut and bolt engine plus gearbox refresh in the last 10,000 miles , rebuilt callipers with new discs in the last 5,000 miles, paintwork refreshed, faded lights and bumper renewed etc. etc plus having two options for suspension. Trophy’s are well known for the Sachs suspension and I have a full set of those as new old stock. It also comes with a set of adjustable Bilsteins on the car which may suit better for track work. ( originally was going to be a track car but kept to Elises on track and this is not getting used). It is currently on the Bilsteins and the Sachs are being kept box fresh as new-old stock given you can’t get some of the parts any more.
There will also be some spare parts such as an extra bonnet that will come with the suspension set.
The car in my ownership has almost exclusively been looked after by Andrew Cochrane one of the best known R- Sport specialists in the area. The car had its belts changed in the last ten thousand miles and will include in the sale price a service from Andy with the full dephaser, timing belt and water pump replacement which is the only big service item. So hopefully for the next owner it should be a very cheap car to run with normal use for the next 5 years.( the other belt service change guide is 5 years).
Car for 20 years old is in good condition having replaced the headlights and front bumper etc. Whilst they are now 20 years old and has been used it will have patina of life but hopefully as you can see from the pictures it looks very good still.
Bad bits there is a small rub mark where the spoiler meets the roof and a weep from the gear selector rod but not enough to merit changing seal I have been advised. The bonnet where the bonnet support strut goes in is rusted but already have a spare bonnet in very good condition to go on it when wished.
