Unique opportunity to own an extremely rare and special piece of Lotus history – perhaps the ultimate lightweight Elise model produced.  The Sport 190 model was the very last of the pre-Toyota Elises, produced in 2003-04 in very low numbers by Lotus Motorsport division (later known as Lotus Sport & Performance), and they seldom change hands.

This car is #27 of the original 33 produced, confirmed by the Lotus Sport chassis plate, and has covered just 20,000 miles, with a full and complete documented history from new, including the original Lotus Motorsport order form, bill of sale, original Sport 190 brochures, comprehensive Sport 190 specification and technical data guide from Lotus Motorsport, every invoice and MOT certificate, and more.   It is believed only two Sport 190’s were produced in the stunning Ice Blue metallic colour.

The S2 Sport 190 is powered by the 2nd generation K-series VHPD (Very High Performance Derivative) and includes – as standard – Motorsport big valve ported cylinder head, Jenvey DTH individual throttle bodies, high lift Piper 872 cams, Omega forged pistons, larger intake & exhaust valves, tufftrided forged crankshaft, forged conrods, ultra lightweight flywheel, and a sports cat, along with the superb B4BP close ratio gearbox.  The car was dyno’d at Scholar at 196bhp and the noise produced by the Jenvey throttle bodies is utterly intoxicating!  Coupled with the 715kg kerb weight it makes for a very special drive indeed.

Unlike the earlier VHPD engines, which were built by PTP and fitted to the S1 Exige, 340R, and S1 Elise 190, the S2 VHPD engine was built by Lotus Motorsport to a very high standard – S2 Sport 190 owners have reported extremely good reliability. The worries about VHPD engine longevity are genuinely not a concern here.   Furthermore, this particular car has had a very easy life – it has never been tracked or abused, always sympathetically warmed up, and garaged all of its life.

Each and every Sport 190 produced was unique, built in accordance with the customer’s requirements. The ‘standard’ Sport 190 specification included fully adjustable Bilstein Lotus Sport suspension, OZ wheels, adjustable ARB, oil cooler, carbon airbox and lots more.  Cosmetically the car is in outstanding condition inside and out.  Mechanically this car is as it left Lotus Motorsport, with unmodified specification other than an Alloy twin core radiator and Eliseparts fan upgrade.  The engine is completely unmodified (even the blue hose was standard fit!). The interior is in practically unmarked condition (with perfect footwells and chassis areas) and benefits from later design seats including a Motorsport driver’s seat, with Lotus Motorsport logos (please note the photos show Probax seats – I will update them!).   The soft top is in 100% perfect condition.

The OZ wheels (unique to the Sport 190 and 135R) have been professionally refurbished, with brand new genuine Lotus wheel centres fitted.   Tyres are the superb Yokohama AD08R, with 6mm of tread remaining (again the photos show different tyres fitted to the car which I have subsequently changed for the AD08R).

Together with a full and complete history file and the Lotus Motorsport documentation, the car comes complete with both keys, owners manual, book pack, and Cobra alarm certificate.

Last serviced March 2022 with Fuchs Titan Pro R oil, plus new cam belt and tensioner, water pump, spark plugs, brake and clutch fluid, fresh coolant; Nylatron gear linkage bushes were also fitted.   Additionally the car has had all new front ball joints and track rod ends fitted last month so steers beautifully as you would expect.

There’s nothing much left to say except for one thing – this rare and fine piece of Lotus Motorsport history is ready to be enjoyed by a lucky new owner.
