For sale, a pampered Lotus Elise S2 111S, with 160 hp VVC engine.
I am selling her because I now realize that I am more of a tinkerer than a driver, and I have no idea what else I can do without ruining her.
I bought her as a right-hand drive Elise (she had been living in Belgium for years at the time).
The previous owner has clearly taken good care of her (suspension overhauled, new ball joints, new brake discs/pads). He also put a close-ratio gearbox on it. This is the gearbox of a “normal” 120 hp Elise, and with that she accelerates (even) a bit faster. This is apparently often done with the 111S. I also have the original gearbox, by the way, now completely fitted with new bearings and seals. He also fitted a Larini rear silencer. Lovely sound.
I immediately replaced the cylinder head gasket, cylinder head bolts and “oil ladder” with the new, improved types, to be rid of the notorious cylinder head gasket leaks for good. Of course, I also immediately replaced the timing belt and VVC belt (and oil, coolant).
Then I put a new set of Nitron dampers under it, as well as a Prodimex shift mechanism (both the part at the gearbox and the part at the lever). This really makes a world of difference!
I also put a removable steering wheel on it (original), carbon side scoops, mirror caps, instrument panel cover, door handles.
Then it was time to move the steering wheel to the left. Where possible, new parts were used, with a full carbon dash panel instead of the aluminum extrusion. Then I also added more carbon to the interior: door sills, other dash panels, and the ventilation openings were also replaced with more chic ones. I also installed a screen to be able to “mirror” your phone (Carplay or Android).
The seats are upholstered in black leather.
Also a new aluminium radiator (with double fan) was installed as a preventive measure, because the original ones can suddenly start leaking at the plastic end caps.
As the icing on the cake, the face of the instrument panel (was mph) was also replaced by km/h (distance in the digital display is in “miles”, which cannot be converted, now it is almost 64,000 miles).
And then a carbon splitter was screwed onto the front…
And xenon headlights (also a huge improvement).
And now I don’t know what else I can tinker with, and that’s the problem.
She has the original soft top of course, but also an original hard top in the body colour. However, I have never used them, and only drive in nice weather.
In short, a fresh Elise S2 111S, in which a lot has been invested, with all the options you would want to have on it yourself within a year.
