1998 Lotus S1 Elise with Exige body conversion
Audi 1.8T 20V Turbo engine conversion running approx. 270bhp
74500 miles MOT until 29th July 2025
Reluctantly selling due to lack of use, I have owned many Lotus over the years including S1 Exige, S1 Elise Honda converted K20 , S3 Exige V6S and this has been my favourite by far with the combination of raw power and looks. It is bananas and sounds like nothing else I have owned.
I bought the car as an Elise around 4 years ago and have spent thousands of hours restoring it to what you see now. I have documented everything and will include 300+ pictures with the car along with full wiring information.
The suspension underwent a full overhaul being vapour blasted and painted in red with new Nitron suspension and bushes, new wheel bearings all round. Exige body was sourced from Dominic at the thelotusfactory which uses moulds of original clams. I meticulously fitted to be better than original factory Exige for panel gaps and finish. Stainless fittings throughout. I had the car professionally resprayed in its original Calypso Red so it is as new condition. The clams and splitter fitted using stainless black hardware, dezeus and aero catch on motorsport engine cover. Fibreglass Exige S1 wider wheel arch liners.
Engine conversion completed by Bernard Scouse/Auto Teknix and Guglielmi Motorsport, this was the first car ever converted to the Audi 1.8T 20V engine and was featured in magazines, I have a copy of the Performance Tuner feature.

• Genuine 16”/17” Rimstock S1 Exige wheels fitted with Yokohama A048 tyres
• Engine was a very low Mileage AWT and has covered approx. 30k miles since conversion
• Nitron NTR Fast road coil overs with stiffer rear spring rate to account for engine weight

• Spitfire upgraded in tank fuel pump
• 6 Speed 02M gearbox with RTS Organic Clutch and lightweight single mass flywheel (just fitted along with new Sachs clutch slave cylinder)
• Eltech Italia V1R Full Carbon bucket seats with Luke harnesses
• Safety devices A-Frame rollover cage with Petty bar (not fitted but included)
• Ali bell front discs with Pagid RS42 pads
• OMP Superquadro alcantara steering wheel with snap off steering column
• Triple gauge cluster Oil temp, Oil Pressure, Boost pressure
• K04 turbo and larger injectors from 225bhp TT, R8 coil packs
• Gates Kevlar timing belt kit fitted 400miles ago
• Greddy oil catch can with Cloude 9 customs brass fittings
• Flush fit 4 fin motorsport diffuser
• Custom rear LED lights with integrated Fog and Reverse lights
• Just had service with Oil, Oil filter and Spark plugs when new clutch and flywheel was fitted
Some negatives worth mentioning are the top window seals are not fitted as I couldn’t source an original roof seal. Never bothered me as I didn’t use the car in anything other than good weather. Footwell plates have the rubber removed and have some corrosion. Gear-change is a bit vague but fine once you are used to it. Number plate will be removed before sale.
This is a special car and not for the feint hearted. Price – £29,995
